Yesterday was December 1st which is an exciting day in our home. This is the day that we begin our count down to Christmas with a different activity every day. This is a lot of fun for the kids and is so very helpful to me. It enables us to accomplish all of the things that we want to do throughout the month with lots of fun and little stress.
Throughout the month, we really try to focus on others. Summarizing from Ruth Meek's Redeeming Christmas message, the goal is to get our children to ask what can they give to someone else rather than what are they going to get on Christmas morning. Care packages are a great way to shift the focus away from the kids. There are a ton of options here--soldiers, college students, missionaries, older people in nursing homes, etc.
Since my niece, Allison, is a freshman in college this year, we really wanted to send her a care package. Yesterday, I turned the kids loose in Target with a box and let them fill it with all sorts of goodies for Allison. They also made cute little cards that they included. We will mail it today so that she receives it toward the beginning of the season and so we are at the post office before it gets too crazy!
